A runner and courier turned vindictive assassin after his family was thrown in front of a firing squad for conspiring against the crown. In the eyes of Brutus, the only change that might thwart the system can be done through the blade, and often he has proved that the pen is not mightier than the sword, after dedicating himself to eliminate loyalist propagandists across the kingdom.

During the last insurrection, the King and other nobles used their Court Wizards to intercept and lull carrier pigeons so they might uncover the plans and messages of their conspirators, before sending them to continue their message as planned. This almost single handedly thwarted the rebellion, and ultimately led to the destruction of the proud Valentius family; a minor family of Grimhelm with weapons manufacturing as their pedigree.

Accused of supplying arms to the rebels, the entire family was rounded up and publicly executed by a firing squad, made an example of before the people. Brutus, the youngest son of only fourteen years, was the sole survivor of this slaughter, spared only due to him bunking off the academy to go rooftop racing with friends. He returned home to find it ransacked, and learned that his family was scheduled to be executed only days later.
